This was a very big weekend for us, especially for Kylie! Not only did we have Independence Day and Kylie's second birthday to celebrate, but we also got to have Grandma and Grandpa Hansen and Uncle Tommy visit us for the weekend! It has been very exciting.
My family arrived on Thursday evening, and after dinner we all went to see the fireworks show in the middle of St. George. This was Kylie's first time seeing the big fireworks, and she seemed to enjoy it, saying "whoa!" after most of them. The hard part was that she wanted to run around, but we were on a hillside covered in brush so she couldn't really do that. Plus it didn't help that the whole place was infested with big red ants, so I think we were all kind of relieved when the fireworks ended and we could escape the bugs and dirt.
Friday was Kylie's birthday, and she started the day off right by eating jelly beans while we made waffles.
We played all morning with everyone who was visiting, and then after Kylie's nap we celebrated her birthday. We got all her presents out and when she came into the room her face was so priceless. It just lit up and she was so excited. She went for her trike first. She doesn't know how to really ride it yet, but after a few days she has definitely gotten the idea down.
Then Kylie got ahold of her balloons, and had little interest in opening her presents. So I helped her out a bit.
She got a lot of fun stuff, and of course some clothes (not so fun for kids). Grandma Tess made Kylie a bunch of cute summer dresses:
One of her favorite toys was her Mrs. Potato Head. She really liked putting the pieces on her.
After we were done with presents (and balloons), we went for a birthday dinner at Red Robin. There she got a few more presents (her "restaurant presents" in an attempt to keep her entertained), but the best part was of course the chocolate malt.
Saturday morning we tried to do the official "two year birthday shoot", but Kylie wasn't very cooperative. Of course she didn't want to sit in a fun park and play with toys she had all the time at home... she wanted to get up and play! So we had a tough time, but thankfully Grandpa Pete was patient and still got tons of cute shots.
That afternoon we all went swimming. Kylie is getting more daring now with jumping into the pool. She likes to jump off the deep end with the bigger girls that come, and she refuses to let me catch her. She does a belly flop sort of jump, but she is so happy.
Then there was the time she accidentally fell in head first... that was hilarious and such a shock to her!
That evening we finally got around to the birthday cake (we really made it into a weekend-long celebration!). Kylie was so cute blowing out her candles. She even did it twice!
Sunday morning my family had to leave. We are so grateful that they were able to come celebrate with us and brave the southern Utah heat! And thank you so much to Grandpa Pete for all the amazing photos he took (and even the video above!). We had so much fun this weekend!

Such a wonderful and fun weekend. I am so happy that your dad took all those wonderful pictures and videos. I wish I could have been there with you all. I loved how colorful his pictures turn out. It really pays to have a great camera that can capture all the details. Thanks for sharing all these memories. I will need to make her next blog book now that she is two.
